Pulling on the England Vest: Ged and Heather Take Bronze at Swansea

A proud day for Hart Road Runners — two of our own, Ged Ruffle and Heather, lined up in the famous white-and-red of England at the Swansea Half Marathon, representing the England Athletics Age Group Masters team.

And they didn’t just make up the numbers. Both came away with a bronze medal apiece, in a fiercely contested international against runners from Wales and Northern Ireland.

Heather summed it up perfectly:

“Ged Ruffle and I were very proud to both achieve a bronze medal running for England in the Swansea Half Marathon as part of the England Athletics Age Group Masters team. The England team was against runners from Wales and Northern Ireland.”

There’s something rather special about earning an international vest, and to have two HRR runners standing on the podium in the same race is a real moment for the club. Pulling 13.1 miles out of the bag on a damp day in Wales, against the best masters runners the home nations could put forward — that’s no small thing.

Huge congratulations to Ged and Heather from everyone at Hart Road Runners. You’ve done the club, and your country, proud!
