Saturday saw the annual SEAA Road Relays at Rushmoor Arena. The morning sessions were for junior athletes and in the afternoon seniors and veterans (V40, V50, V60+).
The event was supported by a huge number of athletes from clubs across Southern England from Cornwall, Suffolk, London and all the Home Counties. The event was hosted by AFD and the organisation was outstanding.
The course was a challenging 2 loops covering 6km; there were 6 legs for senior teams and 4 for the vets.
For the first time HRR entered this event with 3 teams, a senior team and 2 vets teams (V40 and V50). It should be noted that the V40 team had a combined age greater than the V50 team as its members included 2 x V40 and 2 x V60+.
The camaraderie of the HRR team was outstanding and the support from spectators and other athletes was brilliant. Our senior team completed the course in 2hr 17min finishing 79th out of 113, V50 team finished in 1hr 34min finishing 11th out of 23 and the V40 team finished in 1hr 42min finishing 22nd out of 28.
The standard of racing was exceptional with the winning team finishing in 1hr 49mins (i.e. each athlete covering each km in 3min 3sec!
