Canal-side Social Run — Thursday 28th May, 7pm
Join us this Thursday evening for a relaxed social run along the Basingstoke Canal, taking in the picturesque Tundry Pond and the surrounding countryside. Grahame is leading what promises to be one of the more scenic routes on our calendar — flat, friendly, and finished off with drinks at the Barley Mow.
The essentials
- Start time: 7:00pm
- Meet: Barley Mow canal car park
- Route: 2-loop social route, approximately 6 miles / 10k
- Pace: Social — expect to be out for around an hour
- Walking option: 3-mile walk available for those who’d prefer a stroll
- Run lead: Grahame S
- Afterwards: Drinks at the Barley Mow 🍻
What to expect
The two-loop format means we all stay together as a group — no one gets left behind, and faster runners can double back to bring up the rear. The canal towpath is mostly flat and well-surfaced, making this a great option whether you’re easing back into running, building your mileage, or just fancy a sociable evening on your feet.
With a 7pm start and sunset not until just after 9pm, we’ll have plenty of daylight for the full route — no head torches needed.
The 3-mile walking option is perfect if you’d rather take in the views at a gentler pace. Walkers and runners will all meet up at the Barley Mow afterwards, so no one misses out on the social side.
Bring along
- Trail-friendly shoes (the towpath is mostly compacted but can be soft in places)
- Some cash or a card for the pub
- A friend, partner, or curious newcomer — all welcome
New to Hart Road Runners?
If you’ve been thinking about joining us, this is the perfect run to try. Social pace, friendly faces, beautiful surroundings, and a pint at the end — what’s not to like? Just turn up at the car park a few minutes before 7pm, introduce yourself, and we’ll look after you from there.
See you on the towpath!
